Teddy Bear, Teddy Bear.............

Well, I had this post all written and ready to publish when I tried to delete a photo off of the upload section and deleted the entire post.....what's up with that???

Oh well, here we go again!  You may wonder why I am posting a pic of scraps, but I wanted to show you my template cutting and the slivers I have left after they're all cut.  It's a tight fit, but I am cutting a 2.5" strip from a half yard piece, then cutting my templates from that and....
This is what I have when I am finished with three strips of template cutting.  I hate wasting fabric and love using scraps.  The blue one I am working on, I can see fabrics from my grandchildren's quilts, that makes me feel really good!!
Here's my progress so far, it is on the design wall as an encouragement to keep moving with this project.  It is by far, the most tedious one I have done in a while.  I am loving it though.  Keeps me out of trouble, right!!
Hope you have a great Saturday and Sunday.  Tomorrow is church day, so may not be a post.  Have a great weekend anyway and

NO POOCHY LIPS HERE!!!

We always told our children when they pout and their lips quivered, they had the poochy lip...well, I am happy to say I have no poochy lips here!! Today I have been working on my double wedding ring quilt.  I am very happy to report on my curved seams, I have no puckers and its going well.  I really don't mind curved seams.  As a matter of fact, I quite like them. I like the challenge they present.  I enjoy the entire process!

Eighteen down, 79 to go!  I will be old and gray at this rate!!!!  At least I'm having fun.  The key for me is pins and taking my time.  I have done curves as small as 2.5" blocks to 10" blocks.  Very fun.  If you have questions, I'll be happy to help.

I've also used my blue/light triangles I had cut the other day (696) of them as my leaders and enders.  I am making hourglass units with them.  I have about 50 of them completed with about 125 left to go.

Still need to take the dog ears off, but other than that, these are ready for the blocks.  I believe they are called puss in the corner or some such name.  I am not too good with names.

This evening we received some news one doesn't like to hear.  Our oldest, who lives in Alaska, had an accident.  She and the children are ok.  They will really hurt tomorrow.  All were belted in and are well.   The other car was a squeeny thing, so her suburban bowled him over.  His is totaled, but he is ok as well.  We are thankful they are all ok.  It was a bit hard on this momma's heart though. I really don't like it that they are so far away.

Enjoy your day and

Telling Tone

Since telling tone is sometimes hard and I don't own the red glasses, I have to adjust sometimes.  I am working on a project that requires me to sew light and dark triangles together.  I am using my cell phone camera on black and white or tonal to help me out.  I have pics here in color and pics in tonal.  You can see I have used the same light with both and a different dark, one solid and one print.

Tonal version makes it very obvious, as if I couldn't already tell with this one!!  But look at my light, the color version shows reds and yellows on a pale blue background.  The tonal version shows those reds and oranges as the same tone and the yellow as my light.  I love using this method!!

I will take pics along the way so you can see what I get done.  This is a very scrappy quilt using my blue and light scraps I posted about the other day.  I am working on light blue/dark blue hour glasses right now.  I need 174 of them which made for me cutting 696 triangles!!!

Back to the sewing!!!

Ready, Set, Sew

Another busy day, but today was in my "crafting office" as our granddaughter calls it!  I have been busy sorting, cutting, sorting, cutting, and sorting more!
Here is my current project.  It is a two block quilt. I have one block in each box.  I also was able to sort the 2.5" strips into color boxes.  I am so excited with my progress!
Now for a bit of a tutorial on how to save fabric when you are cutting your quarter square triangles.  I used 2.5" strips for all the pieces of my current project.

First, I straightened the end by cutting off the selvage.  Then I cut my half square triangles with my easy angle ruler on the 2.5" line.
After that, I used my companion angle ruler to cut my quarter square triangles. Flipping the ruler up and down to maximize fabric usage.

Followed by cutting half square triangles at the end of the strip.

I threw the left over ends in my crumb bin for use in string squares.

I've had tons of fun today.  Pretty pleased with my progress!!

Hope you accomplished a lot today as well!

Bad and Good

Sorry this posting is so late today, but we've been at Mayo  Clinic all day.  It's been a long year with my husband and his colon cancer.  Today we saw the surgeon for his follow up and he is doing great.  Found out he is cancer free and on the road to recovery, BUT, his back is fractured.  Chemotherapy leaves many undesirable side effects, some causing others.

On a much happier note, look what I got today!!  I decided that not only are my scraps going to be sorted by size, but now by color as well.  How cool is that??!!??!!  I guess my work is really cut out for me now.  The rest of the week will be busy and messy!!
These are plastic see through shoe boxes that stack.  This is going to be so organized, I can't wait!  Progress pics will come I'm sure!

Have a great evening,

Looking good, I've got the blues all sorted and cut into 2.5" strips and 2.5" squares.  I am pleased with the progress.  Seems as if it is a never ending project!

BUT, there are still a lot of lights to cut down! I am cutting these down to 2.5" strips and 2.5' X 4.5" rectangles.  But alas, all this cutting is getting boring so I will start to sew again.  A bit of sewing, a bit of cutting, a bit of cutting, a bit of sewing........

Don't usually get a lot done on a Sunday as we have church, but I can cut or sew in the afternoon for a while.  Our granddaughter is doing very well with her potty training, so I pretty much just have to run occasionally.  It's been a busy week, but loving not changing the diapers!

Hope your day is wonderful!

My job today: make this stack of lights and blues into manageable scraps.  I am cutting down to 2.5in strips and squares.  Working on a scrap quilt that uses that size. Plus, like I said...the scrap pile is taking over!  I'll post an after pic when this mess is tamed.  You should have seen the studio last night when I was sorting these out! Scraps were flying everywhere! At least the floor is clean again.

I am cutting down the scraps to 2.5.  If there is not enough left at the end, I cut down to 2" and put in the 2" plastic shoe box.  Anything under 2" goes into the "string" box. Anything under 1" goes in the bag for doggie bed filling :-D  Nothing goes to waste around here!! NOTHING goes in the trash.

I am headed to the second hand store this next week as well.  Going for the largest size of men's shirts I can find.  I hear the XXXL cotton shirts yield about 2 yards of fabric!!!!  Oh boy, what a bargain!

Have a great day!

Here is our newest addition to the family's quilt.  Hunter loves his sock monkey I made him, so I added a sock monkey quilt for him.  I designed it just for him. He's eight months old, hope his has it for his first birthday!

Close up of the squares so you can see the sock monkeys!

Here's that pic I promised.   I love having a tech savvy husband!!  I did change block 8, it was a circle and I felt it was a little out of place.  I added the 54-40 or fight block in the upper middle (blue).   I also changed the layout a bit.  Binding cut and ready for the frame!

More pics to come.......

Here We Go

Well, I'm excited to start this blog and have fun with you about everything quilty.  I have lots of ideas for quilt designs and I love mystery quilts.  I will try to add projects as often as I can and share other goodies from other bloggers.

Today finds nothing on the calendar, so I get to spend the day in my "office" or my "crafting room" as a couple of my granddaughters call this room I love so much.  Just finished a Craftsy "Mystery" using Jenny Beyer fabrics.  It is lovely, better than I expected. Once I work out how to get the pic from the ipad to the computer, I'll post a pic.  I just ordered a double wedding ring kit, looking forward to starting that one.

Back to quilting now...
